Issues

  • As a registered nurse, Megan sees first hand how the people of Ohio struggle to get the care they need.  She has witnessed insurance companies denying coverage for recommended cancer treatments, hospitals no longer accepting a particular insurance, prescription prices that are unaffordable and the difficulty accessing reliable transportation for appointments. All of these things make it harder for people to focus on what matters most: their health itself. As your state representative, Megan would support legislation such as HB 289: Establish Ohio Health Care Plan for universal health coverage.

  • As a graduate of Ohio’s public schools and the daughter of a retired public school teacher, Megan understands the urgency of proper funding for our public schools. Public education in Ohio has been unconstitutionally funded for decades, and the current voucher program for private schools has exacerbated that problem. Megan will support reviewing the Fair School Funding Plan that was left out of the FY2026-27 budget by the current state legislature. Good public schools are good for everyone in Ohio.

  • As a nurse and local community member, Megan sees how rising costs strain families every day. She hears from people who are working hard but still struggling to afford rent, groceries, child care, and prescription medications. Housing costs continue to climb, wages are not keeping pace, and property taxes are putting added pressure on seniors and working families. Megan believes affordability requires practical solutions: increasing the supply of safe, affordable housing, providing targeted property tax relief for those who need it most, and passing state budgets that prioritize working families over special interests. Ohio should be a place where people can build a stable life without constantly worrying about how to make ends meet.

  • From gerrymandering to purging voter rolls, Ohio continues to make it harder to vote. Megan recognizes that she is elected by the people and that elected officials shouldn’t be part of drawing the maps that determine their districts. As evidenced over the past several years, politicians in Columbus can’t be trusted to draw fair, constitutional maps as voted on by the people of Ohio. As a state representative, Megan will advocate to make it easier to vote by increasing the number of ballot drop boxes in each county, making Election Day a holiday, and supporting automatic voter registration. She will also fight to bring gerrymandering to an end.

  • With her background in public health and nursing, Megan is a passionate advocate for reproductive rights. As a health educator, she provided comprehensive sex education to college students, and was a trusted resource for them when they had questions or needed support. Megan’s initial involvement with politics was attending a Planned Parenthood Lobby Day in Tallahassee, FL. She went on to participate in Lobby Day when she returned to Ohio and was active in collecting petition signatures to put reproductive rights on the ballot in 2023. As a state representative, Megan will fight to protect what voters in Ohio chose to enshrine in our state’s constitution, and advocate for all Ohioans to have access to the reproductive care they need.

Meet Megan Coy

Hello!

Megan Coy is running for State Representative in Ohio’s House District 17.  A registered nurse, Megan is starting her second term on Olmsted Falls City Council as Councilwoman At-Large.  District 17 includes Berea, Broadview Heights, North Royalton, Olmsted Falls, Strongsville, and a portion of Olmsted Township.

Megan is running for the Statehouse because she has seen how our healthcare system is failing our communities, and her patients and neighbors need a champion in Columbus. Her advocacy for her patients starts in the hospital and extends to the legislature.

Megan has a BA from Francis Marion University in South Carolina, a Masters in Public Health from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Cleveland State University. Before returning to Ohio for nursing school, Megan worked for three years as a health educator-like far too many people have experienced, Megan had her position eliminated due to budget cuts. In her ten years of nursing practice, she has worked in pediatric surgical/trauma, general pediatrics, imaging, and oncology.

In 2021, Megan purchased her first home in Olmsted Falls, a wonderful community where she could afford to build a life. Just a few short years later, she was asked by friends and community leaders to run for Council because of how invested she had become in the area. She is proud of the connections she has made with members of the community, from neighbors to small business owners. As a Councilwoman Megan has been a tireless advocate for the people of Olmsted Falls, living by the mantra that the people are the boss. She is committed to transparency, communication, and honesty in her work on Council.

Megan grew up in Avon Lake, Ohio, and is the daughter of Tom and Carolyn Coy. Her mom is a retired public school teacher and her dad works in the HVAC industry. Megan credits her parents with instilling a strong work ethic and community-service mindset.
